Ask anybody in south Asia, Africa or Australia if they knew about Los Angeles Galaxy and probably the answer would be "no" but 2007 was the year which changed the astronomical odds to reality reason being David Beckham's transfer to Galaxy. Major League Soccer was unheard off at the international football scenario but Beckham's transfer changed everything.
The impact was a phenomenon which lead to a comparison between the great 'Pele' and Beckham in terms of contribution towards american football and the reason one cannot over look America when it comes to football is the fact that it is the birthplace of some of the greatest sports models be it NBA or NF .
It was a strange thing that opposing teams would built up marketing strategy based on an opposition players and probably it was the only transfer in the world on which a book was written by Grant Wahl - "The Beckham Experiment: How the World's Most Famous Athlete Tried to Conquer America" .
Beckham's LA Galaxy jersey became an outrage for football fans around the globe and international stints to Australia. New Zealand, Indonesia etc. gave MLS a much needed international fan base.
Beckham was not the best player to play in MLS (he himself accepted it) that honor goes to the french legend Thierry Henry but never the less this is what one calls the "DAVID BECKHAM EFFECT".
