Neymar da Silva Santos JĂșnior completed his signing for the Spanish giants Barcelona which has catapulted the Brazilian star into the list of the most-expensive footballers of all time.
Just days after Monaco shattered the french transfer record with the £50m pursuit of Atletico Madrid's Colombian striker Radamel falcao,Barcelona sealed the fate of the 21-years old Santos forward by signing him for a whopping £57 million.

But here's the multi-million dollar question-Will the Brazilian gem cope with the expectations that comes with his hefty price tag?
No doubt,Transfers are an integral part of football. But the part which is worrying is the perspective this process has assumed over the years.
Football's transfer fee figures have gone bonkers in recent years. The transfer fee of Cristiano Ronaldo alone( £80M ) can be used to buy eleven players and form a team.
Here's a trend and a very common one, I've observed: The misconception that has developed amongst especially the top clubs in the world is ''the compulsion to buy just for the sake of contention''.

According to sporting Intelligence, the top four salary outlays are in soccer across all sports worldwide —Manchester City,Chelsea,Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The reality is- Signing a player who has a 'name' and 'reputation' does not assure anything. It only increases the probability or possibility of a positive percussion. But then again, its only a mere probability and you just cannot spend millions of dollars based on the fact that "you feel that this player might become a star tomorrow".
The "GOD-knows-what thinking of the bosses" that motivates these expenditures must be substituted for sensible apellation. This foolishness has got to stop somehow. We need to lay bare the wrong ideology that one needs to spend and spend big to be successful.
Success can also come through calculated approach. Big names,Rich clubs don't play football. Quality does.
